Customer Challenge
Their workflow was copy-dominant with frequent image-containing output, driving print coverage to around 7–8%. Under these conditions, toner consumption per page rises sharply, causing faster depletion, higher running costs, and more frequent replacements. They needed a reliable way to reduce consumables cost per page without sacrificing output quality or operational stability.
Our Approach
We focused on the difference between PC-print-centric usage and copy-centric usage. Many office environments run below the 5% coverage used for manufacturer yield testing, where selecting an oversized high-fill cartridge may not be optimal.
In contrast, copy-heavy environments often mix dense fills, dark halftones, and image-based documents, pushing coverage to 8–12%. This customer’s actual coverage profile was the primary driver of cost escalation. We therefore selected a recycled toner model whose fill volume and performance characteristics match higher-coverage use, and designed an operating plan that stabilizes replacement cycles and makes ongoing cost predictable.
Results for the Customer
Compared with OEM toner, the customer reduced consumables spend by approximately 50%, materially lowering cost per page. After implementation, there were no toner-related print defects or downtime, even during peak copy periods. The outcome met the customer’s objective: lower cost with stable, uninterrupted output operations.
