Case Study: Fast, Space-Saving A3 Printing with Predictable Cost (SubLow®) Across Two Sites
Executive Summary
In a Japanese care services environment where paper-based forms cannot be eliminated, we launched an A3-capable, compact multifunction printing setup across two locations on a short lead time—reducing footprint and stabilizing print spend through a fixed-fee plan (SubLow®).
Device
Brother MFC-J6983CDW (A3-capable inkjet multifunction printer)
Why this device works in high-volume office operations
The unit supports A3 output and is designed with dual high-capacity paper trays plus a multi-purpose tray, which helps reduce misfeeds and reprints even when paper sizes are frequently switched. It delivers approximately 20 ppm (A4 color) and 22 ppm (A4 mono), suitable for concentrated printing such as meeting packs and distribution materials. As an inkjet platform, it does not require a heat-fusing process, which helps minimize first-page delays in day-to-day workflows. Pigment ink improves resistance to smudging and supports clearer text edges and readability for records and handouts.
Delivery Snapshot
Customer: Company operating multiple care and welfare facilities
Decision model: General Affairs led selection and operational design; CEO approved the investment
Industry: Care and welfare services
Deployment scale: Two operational sites (within a multi-facility organization)
Region: Gifu, Japan
Delivery reference: 25091404
Customer Challenges
Paper documents for records, communication, consent, and reporting remained essential, making it difficult to reduce print volume. At the same time, printing costs were burdensome and unpredictable due to the combination of hardware investment and usage-based “counter” charges typically associated with electrophotographic (toner) MFPs. Space constraints also prevented installation of full-size devices. The customer needed two units deployed quickly, with operations up and running in a short timeframe.
Our Solution and Implementation
We proposed an A3 full-color inkjet MFP using pigment ink, enabling A3 print, A3 copy, and scanning in a single compact unit. To minimize procurement workload and eliminate consumables uncertainty, we bundled a 36-month fixed-fee plan (SubLow®) that includes ink. We also included maintenance in the service to consolidate incident response, support contacts, recovery procedures, and cost handling—reducing administrative burden and improving governance for the General Affairs function.
Outcomes and Business Impact
Compared with typical A3 full-color electrophotographic (toner) MFPs, the installation footprint was reduced by approximately 61%, allowing A3 color printing and scanning within limited space at each site. Financially, shifting from usage-driven counter charging to a fixed-fee model covering consumables and maintenance reduced monthly cost volatility and improved budgeting and approval predictability. Operationally, consumables purchasing, inventory decisions, and expense processing were simplified, while unplanned failure response became clearer—lowering workload for General Affairs and providing management with higher confidence in sustaining the print environment.
Why SIS Partners
We supply toner powder and other key components to recycled-toner manufacturers, reflecting deep technical knowledge of consumables performance and quality control. We leverage this expertise to design stable, cost-effective print environments by selecting and combining the right options across OEM supplies and compatible alternatives (including products adapted for the Japan market from overseas OEM distribution). For inkjet environments, we prioritize ink and device selection that protects printheads and enables stable, long-term operation. Our approach is built around reuse and cost optimization—delivering sufficient performance without overspending.
Consultation: Recycled Toner and Print Cost Optimization
With roughly 30 years of experience—especially strong in color printing—we help organizations avoid common post-purchase issues caused by selecting devices that require periodic maintenance without an appropriate operational model. The result is fewer surprises and lower total cost.
